19th June

Vince, Roz, and Jake

Decided on minimalist apparel for this evening’s trip – vest and shorts under cotton overalls (I was still warm!). We carried in a ladder for the ‘pot’ and a longer-handled ‘pointy’ spade for the digging (the garden spade already there was later removed from the cave).

On arrival at the dig in LoH&G, the ladder was hung, and before digging commenced unwanted paraphernalia was removed from the dig. Digging is tough going at present and not very rapid, very compact fine-grained sediment in a constricted space, but it is still going! The filled bags were stashed along the passage temporarily, and once digging was done, they were dragged along to the end of the passage to be emptied. Job done!

A warm trip out of the cave and refreshments in the ravine were welcome, it was even warmer out of the cave. We refrained from singing ‘Happy Birthday’ to Roz!
