Vince, Jake and Nick
Arrived at the car park to find it was absolutely crammed with trucks, mini-buses and other paraphernalia associated with a film unit for “Masters of the Universe,” (was a later guess). The thought crossed my mind that we might not be able to dig tonight but we were! It seems we were expected.
An even smaller team than anticipated set-off to LoH&G. Once there, Nick got on with digging ever downwards in what from above appears to be a vertical phreatic tube full of very compact silty fine sand, illuminated by ‘caving light’ it is brownish yellow in colour. As the evening progressed it became less easy for Nick to reach up with the filled bags. I cleared the bags away to Jake for spoil disposal. It is clear our strategy might require some updating as (or if) things continue to progress downwards. The short section of ladder available is already inadequate but Nick did manage to extricate himself from the circa 3m deep pit!
As usual we enjoyed refreshments in the ravine. It was quieter now.
